Zori4 Interview
What do you write and what crew(s) are you in?
Zori: I write Zori Four and I'm in OBW, MI, Y&I and KD crew
You are down with Cope2's crew KD, how did that happen and what's it like painting with those old school legends?
Zori: Well KD crew has a Crown in Puerto Rico, his name is Blen and he put me down. But I wasn't satisfied at all with being in a crew which the leader didn't know me. Here in Puerto Rico all writers always dream and grow, being better everyday so one day they will be selected to be in their favorite crew. My favorite crew was KD. So one day I helped a friend from Germany to clean his computer of a malicious virus that was damaging his computer and erasing very important files. He was making a graffiti book, so I cleaned his computer and he was so greatful and told me that he owed me a favor. One day I asked for Cope's email from my german friend and that's how it all began. I emailed Cope and I told him I was a KD from Puerto Rico and that I was a girl writer. I sent him pictures of my walls. He didn't believe that it was me.....the one who did the pieces, "a girl" so he came here to visit me to paint. He stayed with me and Dec (my husband) in our house and now we are like a family. The KD FAMILY. Beause KD crew for Cope is not just a graffiti crew, it is a group of friends, no matter how you paint, if you are nice and friendly thats all that counts.
How often do you get out to New York? I have seen alot of walls you have done out there.
Zori: I love New York and visit family and friends that I got over there so I try to travel often. I travel to paint with my crew like 3 times a year.
That's fresh I wish I could make it out there more often. I know you have been painting some 3D styles lately. Who are some of your influences and favorite writers?
Zori: Well the style I'm working on, I named it 2.5D it is wild style with light, shadows and perspective. I painted 3D style a few times to show myself that I can, you know to test my skills. My main influence is who taught me, "Dec". I try hard cause I dont want my pieces to look like his, that's bad in my point of view.
Where are you taking your style and what are your plans for the future as far as graff goes?
Zori: I'm still practicing my techniques and visualization. I'm working in a concept reading books and studying because I wanna make a exposition about my feelings, music and graffiti all mixed, but in an interesting way. My plans are to grow as an artist, paint better everyday and show up everywere I can and don't let my ego grow, still being nice.
How long have you been writing and how did you get into it?
Zori: I have been writting for 4 years. I think that i get into this like all the girls in graffiti, cause (laughs)......LOVE..I didn't like that my boyfriend leave me alone to be bombing and left me like a doll in my house. So I didnt wanna be fighting for that so I tried to see the interesting way on it and I started loving it and learning and now I'm his partner.
Is the graffiti scene pretty large in Puerto Rico?
Zori: Nope...there's like 150 writers and only about 25 active.
Well its good to see you and your friends doing your thing out there. Anyways here is a non-graffiti question. What kind of music are you listening to right now?
Zori: I always listen to Hardcore, I like some Hip-Hop but very special, motivating and strong Hip-Hop.
Thank you for answering some questions for us. Would you like to give some shouts.
