The CUF interview
AHH: Who and what is the Cuf?

O.k. First of all it.s The Cuf one f...it stands for California underground funk, also cunt-ry under frustration.... you should know that by now everyone. We consist of Myself (n8 the gr8),Pete,crush,r.j.and our dj mad g.

AHH: When and how did the Cuf from?

Well the Cuf was created in early 93, it was n8 and crush (the founders) plus Pete and this other cat fat j were stone age, but they were also in the cuf. Back then we even had a mob group three deep that was in the cuf, But that was because the cuf was the bigger picture so to say(parent group)whatever. By 94-95 we dropped a little weight and gained a little in the form of brotha r.j., not long after that we acquired the skills of mad g. and BAMB!!!!! the mutha fuckin CUF.....as you know em' today.

AHH: All you all from Sac?

Nope we are not all from sac. I(n8) am the only one born and raised in sac, Pete was born in hayward,Crush in Valejo, and rj in richmond...I'm pretty sure I might be wrong If I am they will kill me but I am pretty sure I'm right.

AHH: Who did you look up to when you were comin up and now?

Comin up we looked up to Krs one,E-40 and the click, chuck d, gangstar, too short, epmd...too many to name....

Right now I would say...ummmm...our homies the living legends, cali agents, E-40, J5, freestyle fellowship....I don't know just anyone who is "controlling they're own destiny" for lack of better words.

AHH: What are some of the messages you try to get across in your music?

We try to stress the fact that our music is an art form and creativity has everything to do with everything also don't just accept what you are given... meaning what you are forced to hear on the radio or see on videos...if that is what you like then cool but if you are searching for some true heartfelt meaningful music with more messages then grand master flash's two way...then get that cuf shiiiaaat!!!!

AHH: You've been traveling a lot lately. What have you guys been up to?

Well we have been trying to spread the word...touch more people..you know it's hard in Sacramento, we go places where they are way behind us in somethings but they're killen us in the live hip hop show game. But anyways we just released the long awaited full length album entitled "CUF DADDY" ...our web site www.thecuf.com is in the process of a major overhaul...we will have online buying...chat room..all kind of tight ish...also be on the look out for the new "What do you think yer doin" mag if you don't know than find out.We also launched a new website www.sachiphop.com which focus's on anything and everything hip hop in Sacramento.New projects as far as music goes...me and pete coming soon "Good4nuthin" R.j.'s solo "the best of both worlds" Crushes solo "Cufaluphagus" pete and mad g "day by day".....and hella more shit.... so don't touch that dial....

AHH: How do you feel about state of rap music today? What would you change and how could you change- it?

myself personally I don't think I would change anything...I'm kinda feelin how the whole rap game is doin they're shit...anything I would change probably would be everyone would know about the cuf not nelly...j/k

AHH: Would you like you music to be on a mainstream level some day? (why)

think I just answered that...But of course...anyone who makes music want's it to be appreciated by as many people as possible. If that is what mainstream is...but as far as making music to fit a certain type of audience or criteria for radio play or whatever ...nahhh we're cool...they can have that shit...

AHH: What do you think little airplay Sac Radio Stations give you? Should local radio stations do more to promote local groups?

personally I don't think it helps that much out here they don't push us that hard because we don't pay for ads to get played.Yes I do think they should put a little more emphasis on the local cats although I hear the bomb is working on something like that as we speak..so no and yes...

AHH: Tell us about your latest album?

already did "CUF DADDY" super tight....

AHH: What are your future plans?

mo music mo music mo music...na just to keep pluggin away at this shit till it finally gives.

AHH: So will you be performing at that Zulu show on the 21?

Yes we will be at performing @ the zulu show...that shit is going to be off the hering bone......
