Astek Interview
Anomie1: What do you write?
I write Astek and I am in the crew MAK based in Los Angeles.
Anomie1: What is your favorite medium to paint, and what is your prefered brand of paint?
My Favorite mediums right now are pencil and spraypaint. I will use any type of spray paint Krylon, Montana, but my favorites are the Montana Black line and Montana Gold line.
Anomie1: You have been doing a lot of tight productions in LA, do you like the scene in LA better than other places you have painted?
Yeah I love it out here in LA. But I enjoy painting in any city. Every city has its good and bad things.
Anomie1: Some of your work is old school latin style, what would you call that style of art?
Im basically mixing the Lowrider chicano Fine line Tattoo art with my graffiti. I have been into the lowrider scene since I was a kid and growing up seeing candy painted lowriders, airbrushed murals on them, and pinstripe really caught my eye.
Anomie1: Who are some of your favorite artists and influences?
Shade, MR.Cartoon, Jose Lopez, Antonio Pelayo.
Anomie1: Do you do tattoo art? Do you plan on doing it as a profession?
Yes I do a lot of Tattoo drawings for clients and I soon will be doing it on skin.
Anomie1: What direction can we expect to see your art go in the future?
I plan on getting into the fine art gallery scene soon, a clothing line, and whatever else comes my way.
Anomie1: So you show in gallerys.
Yes I show in gallerys and I am working on a series of new art at the moment.
Anomie1: I always ask the interviewee if they have had a close call or chase story, lets hear one of yours.
Yeah, I have had a gang of close calls! one of those times was a few years ago. It was me, Sem and Mons painting in a freight yard. Well we did our thing, painted a end to end, then flicked our work and as we walked out we noticed bright light at the end of the line. We got closer and it ended up being a cop car. We were close enough for him to see us so we just booked it. He hit the siren and the chase began (laughs) we hoped over the fence and ran across the freeway and then we kicked it with a group of strangers in front of some diner. The the cops pulled in stopped and looked at the crowd we were with but were not able to make out who they were chasing, they ended up taking off and we just went our own way.
Anomie1: What have you been listening to lately?
I listen to all kinds of music but lately I have been playing Psyco Realm, lil Rob, lost soul oldies, 2pac, and SPM.
